What is egg donation
Egg donation is most commonly used when the patient is unable to produce her own eggs. Normally, this problem can arise at late 30s and early 40s, but there are also younger women who have “premature” menopause, in the age of 20 or 30. For these women, egg donation surgery is the only possible fertility treatment.
How it works
Egg donation process is pretty the same as standard IVF, except that the eggs are taken from a donor, who can also be an anonymous donor or egg bank. In case of using of “fresh” eggs, a patient undergoes hormone therapy to ensure that their own menstrual cycle matches the donor’s and is ready to receive an embryo for implantation. For those who use frozen eggs, they are stored frozen and are taken for fertilization and transfer only when needed by a recipient patient.
How much it costs
Across Europe the prices vary from €4,500 to 9,000. Czech Republic is considered to be the cheapest in this respect, while in Spain, for instance, the price ranges from €4,500 to 9,000, depending on fertility center.
The cost of an egg donation program in the USA ranges from $30,000 to $60,000. Notice that the medications for the recipient (from $500) or for the donor (from $2,000) are not included in the cost.
Within the United Kingdom, egg donation prices start at around £5,000 per cycle. However, including additional costs, such as donor expenses, donor waiting list fees, embryo cultivation, certain medication, and/or required blood, uterine, and sperm analysis tests, a final bill will be around £12,000.
